What they needed
Real Groovy is Auckland's record store, and its catalogue runs past a million products across vinyl, CDs, books, DVDs and merchandise from suppliers around the world. On a catalogue that size, finding the right thing quickly is the whole shopping experience. And every product import, price update and shipping rule was hand work for a small team.
What we built
A store where search is the front door. Our ingestion pipeline continuously imports, indexes and syncs products from more than twenty suppliers and systems, and an AI-powered search returns instant results with personalised recommendations. Behind the storefront we automated the e-commerce and ERP processes: product imports, stock from multiple suppliers, shipping calculations, club points. The database now holds more than 200 million rows.
What changed
Online revenue grew around 25x over the five years after launch; the goal at the start was 10x. The team spends less time on admin and more on the shop, and the bespoke site has kept performing well past the life most e-commerce builds get.
Where it goes next
Ten years on, we're working with Real Groovy on their next ERP and a Shopify integration for the next version of the store.
