What they needed
Auckland Badminton Association runs a twelve-court stadium for members, clubs and casual players. The old booking system was slow, hard to use on a phone, and every booking needed a person to handle it. Court lighting was another manual job: someone had to switch the lights on and off around the bookings.
What we built
An online booking platform that is also ABA's member hub. Members and casual players pick a court and a time from a live grid and pay online. A Raspberry Pi integration switches each court's lights on for a paid booking and off again after it, so the lights only run when they are earning. Behind it sit the financial reports, admin tools and a CRM for members and clubs.
What changed
More than 200,000 bookings since launch. Admin per booking is around half what it was, and court revenue is up around 50% over three years. The team spends its time on players and the sport rather than the booking desk.
Where it goes next
Ongoing since 2016. We keep adding to the platform as ABA's programmes and clubs grow.
